Another Lusaka taxi driver has been brutally murdered and two juveniles have been arrested in connection with the case while the mastermind is on the run.
The three hired the taxi from Mtendere Market to Ngwerere Township on Friday morning and when they reached Ngwerere farms, they tied the taxi driver and started beating him.
The driver was dragged out of the motor vehicle and the three suspects continued beating him until a police officer who was driving on the same road heard him shouting for help.
Acting police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the murder and identified the taxi driver as Pasco Maboshe, 34, of Kaunda Square Stage 1.
Mr Hamoonga said Mr Maboshe was discovered unconscious by a lone police officer who rushed him to Levy Mwanawasa Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
He said the officer, who was driving near the crime scene, noticed an abandoned motor vehicle on the roadside and when he stopped to check, he heard screams and saw three people beating a man who had his legs tied.
He said the police officer immediately called for reinforcement and in the process the attackers bolted.
Mr Hamoonga said Mr Maboshe sustained injuries on the head and the body.
Police officers then launched a search in the area and two juveniles aged 16 and 17 were arrested.
Mr Hamoonga said the owner of the Toyota Corolla registration number ABJ 1053, Grey in colour has since be identified.
A manhunt has been launched for the mastermind only identified as Charles, while the juveniles are in police custody to help with investigations.
