A GRADE Nine pupil could not conceal her love affair from her parents after she fell pregnant for the second time. She told the Matero local court that her boyfriend, Peter Mulenga, 30, made her abort the pregnancy. She was testifying in a matter in which her mother, Esnart Bwalya, 37, sued Mulenga for compensation for damage.

The juvenile told the court that she has even stopped going to school from the time she fell pregnant in December last year. “I started going out with Mulenga in May last year. We have had sex on two occasions. He made me abort the first pregnancy but I refused on the second one,” she said. She told the court that Mulenga has neglected her from the time she told him that she was pregnant for him. Earlier, Esnart told the court that she wants Mulenga to compensate her with K 50,000 for impregnating her daughter.

She said: “I have been struggling to pay school fees for my daughter with the hope that she would improve her life. He has cut my daughter’s life short.” A visibly annoyed Esnart told the court that she is heartbroken that Mulenga has impregnated her daughter. She told the court that her family called Mulenga for a meeting where he denied being responsible of the girl’s pregnancy.

“My daughter confided in her grandmother that Mulenga is responsible for her pregnancy, I am wondering why he [Mulenga] is refusing to take responsibility,” Esnart said. But Mulenga, in his testimony, told the court that he has never had sex with the juvenile and when she went to his house on December 31 last year at midnight he chased her. “She is just accusing me, I have never slept with her, she just came home at midnight that she wanted to tell me something.

I chased HERand I thought she had gone, surprisingly I found her in my room when I woke up at 02:00 hours,” Mulenga said. In his submissions, he told the court that he cannot manage to pay the K 50,000 Esnart was demanding. In passing judgement magistrate Pauline Newa ordered Mulenga to compensate Esnart with K 18,000 with the first instalment being a K 1,000 on April 30th. Magistrate Newa also advised Mulenga to go for a DNA test six months after the child is born.
