AFTER she confirmed that her husband married another woman behind her back, a 28 year old woman of Mandevu Township did not hesitate to send him packing. Christine Lungu told the Matero local court that she chased Obert Chisanga, 31, from her house because she could not contend with his appetite for women.
Lungu was testifying in a matter in which she sued Chisanga for divorce. “Problems in my marriage started in 2014 when my husband married another woman secretly. I did not know about it until one of our neighbours told me about it,” she said. Lungu told the court that her findings revealed that her husband even held a kitchen party for the woman in question. She said she could not contend with her husband’s behaviour of receiving love messages from different women, especially in the night.
Lungu said: “my husband also went to Mansa in search or greener pastures, but to my surprise he married another woman there also.” She told the court that Chisanga was counselled by the couple’s family but he has not changed. Lungu said she is tired of her husband’s promiscuous behaviour and cannot live with him anymore.
But Chisanga told the court that Lungu chased him because he was not doing anything. “She has been paying rentals and feeding me and I appreciate her for that. But the problem is that she lost respect for me because I was not working,” he said. Chisanga also told the court that he went on to marry another woman because Lungu neglected him when he was sick. He said his wife only wanted to get rid of him because he was not doing anything. Chisanga in his submissions told the court that he still loves his wife and is against the idea of divorcing. Magistrate Pauline Newa adjourned the matter to March 25 for judgement.
