…Gets Nomination for Red Bull Player of the Season
Chipolopolo striker Patson Daka says being nominated for the Player of the Season accolade for Red Bull Salzburg is a great honour as it gives faith that his efforts on the pitch are not in vain.
And Daka says he is not disappointed at missing out on the golden boot award after netting an incredible 24 league goals in the 2019/2020 season in the Austrian Bundesliga.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the FAZ Media at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, Daka who completed a double in Red Bull Salzburg colours says he gave his best but will continue to work on his game.
Daka says whatever happens in the end is not in his hands but will remain grateful for the recognition.
“It is always an honour and means that people are recognizing my hard work. I am just humbled to be recognized whatever happens, all glory belongs to God so I think it is something that I deserve and has not come by mistake,” he says.
Wolfberger talisman Zalman Weissman finished the season on 30 league goals with Daka in second on 24.
“It is normal to be disappointed but again, what does not have your name on it cannot be yours. He (Weissman) deserves it and I just have to work on the next one,” he says.
Daka described the season as being successful and already focussing on the next one.
“It has been a great season for me personally. It was not really easy but it has been a season to remember. It has been a breakthrough season, I have done a lot of things right and there are a lot of things that I have to work on. I think it has been a great season and stepping stone for the future,” he says.
The 2017 CAF Young Player of the Year also gave his thoughts on the postponement of the AFCON from 2021 to 2022.
“I think it is a decision that they have taken based on a very crucial analysis. There is nothing we can do, but we have to make good use of the time and make sure that we prepare hard whenever it will come we have to be ready,” he says.
