The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection, (JCTR) says negligence of Covid-19 preventive measures among community members and politicians is likely to cause more deaths in Zambia.
JCTR Executive Director, Father Alex Muyebe tells Byta FM News that the public has prematurely dropped its guard on COVID-19 at a time that community spread of the virus is on the rise in Zambia.
Muyebe cites among others, disregard of COVID-19 preventive measures by Patriotic Front, (PF) cadres that accompanied Health Minister, Dr. Chiltalu Chilufya to the Lusaka Magistrates Court recently.
He adds that the country also risks being overrun by the pandemic following negligence of COVID-19 preventive measures in markets, bus stations and public service vehicles.
Muyebe says this is a recipe for disaster as the pandemic is silently infiltrating communities.
He has since urged government and other stakeholders to aggressively step up community education on COVID-19, increase screening and testing and resume daily detailed updates on COVID-19.
This is in addition to putting in place measures to enforce compliance to COVID-19 preventive measures especially in communities, in public places and prioritising public health over political interest.
