Now Dismissed UTH Nurses To Be Evicted From Houses

UNIVERSITY Teaching Hospital public relations manager Mwenya Mulenga says dismissed nurses at the hospital will only be evicted from the houses once all anomalies are rectified.
But some dismissed nurses have accused the Ministry of Health and UTH management of planning to evict them from the houses impulsively.
In an interview, Mulenga said it was not true that UTH management was planning to evict the dismissed nurses from the houses before rectifying all the irregularities.
“That is not true because we have never discussed that in our management meetings. We cannot do that prematurely because there are a lot of things that need to be sorted out. It is not possible that we can start thinking of that now. That is supposed to be a management decision but we have never discussed that before. I am sure it is just their own thinking,” Mulenga said.
He said there were many nurses that were unfairly dismissed and had appealed, adding that management was still busy sorting out such cases.
Mulenga said management would only evict dismissed nurses from the houses once all the issues were attended to.
But some dismissed nurses who have occupied the newly constructed apartments at the institution said in an interview yesterday that they had been informed by personnel in the Human Resource Department that management wanted all dismissed nurses evicted from the houses within 14 days.
“What we are saying is true and management should just come out clean on this matter. How can they honestly think of doing this when there are a lot of things that need to be sorted out? But we are not surprised because if they managed to dismiss some of us unfairly and they do not even want to hear us out, what can stop them from evicting us without sorting out all our problems?” one of the dismissed nurses said. “I know what I am talking about because some nurses have even gone to the extent of telling me that they will occupy my flat immediately I move out. Some of us were even ready to receive eviction letters today (yesterday) because that is what we were told. Anyway, we will wait and see.”
