Chipolopolo skipper Chris Katongo is set to leave Golden Arrows at the end of the season and sign for PSL powerhouses Orlando Pirates, Zambian Football understands.
Katongo, who is on a short term deal to try and help salvage a seemingly hopeless Arrows campaign to stay afloat, will make the switch as a free agent in a deal that is set to make him one of the top earners at Pirates and the Absa Premiership.
Katongo has declined to comment on any speculation linking him to Pirates but hinted last month that he did not intend to extend his stay at Arrows who are bottom of the log and all but set for the lower league.
A source close to the deal said the transfer is expected to be announced as soon as Arrows’ demotion is confirmed.
Pirates recently announced that Mbesuma had no future at the Soweto giants with their coach popularly known as VV asserting that Mbesuma looked ready for retirement than playing on.
Pirates are said to be keen on the Katongo deal and will not stand in Mbesuma’s way who has been strongly linked with a move to DRC giants and champions league contenders TP Mazembe.
