MISADVENTURE has cost two police officers of Lusaka’s Chinika police post injuries after they allegedly got a client’s vehicle from a car park without authority to go drinking and were involved in an accident.
The incident happened on Friday night.
Lusaka Province commissioner of police Lemmy Kajoba who confirmed the incident said that the officer who was driving the vehicle will be arrested.
He declined to give details of the two officers.
Mr Kajoba said the officers were taken to Lusaka’s University Teaching Hospital (UTH) as out-patients.
“We have ordered for his arrest as a docket has been opened for taking and driving a motor vehicle without authority,” he said.
Mr Kajoba has warned police officers against involving themselves in such kind of misdeeds.
He said that police are supposed to protect people’s property and not to take advantage of the people they are supposed to serve.
Mr Kajoba said that the Chinika police officers will be dealt with so that they serve as an example for others.
He said that the officers claimed that they were going for an operation.
“How can they say that they were going for an operation using a client’s vehicle and more over we have enough transport,” Mr Kajoba said.
Mr Kajoba said that officers who are involved in such kind of acts will not be spared by the law.
He said that there are several reports that have reached his office where officers get their clients’ vehicles and use them for their personal errands.
