Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) Youth Chairman Antonio Mwanza has called for a motion to be tabled in Parliament that will bar MPs who defect from one party to the other from contesting the subsequent by-elections.
Mr. Mwanza has said that it is shocking that while millions of youths are unemployed, hospitals lack drugs among other challenges, some Members of Parliament want to create by-elections at huge cost to the country.
He says it is clear that the defectors are not doing so in public interest, but for selfish reasons to align themselves to the ruling party.
Mr Mwanza adds that such actions are immoral, retrogressive and should be stopped with urgency.
He has since called on well meaning Zambians to rise up and condemn the irresponsible behavior being exhibited by some Members of Parliament.
His statement comes in a wake of looming defections by named MMD Members of Parliament to the ruling Patriotic Front.
Meanwhile, Northmead Assembly of God Overseer Bishop Joshua Banda has urged the technical committee drafting the Republican Constitution to come up with a clause that will allow runners up in elections to take over parliamentary seats vacated by defecting elected Member of Parliament.
