Namwala Woman,87, Raped

POLICE in Namwala have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly raping an 87-year-old woman.
And police in Zambezi have arrested two people for alleged examination malpractices.

Southern Province commissioner of police Mary Chikwanda confirmed yesterday that the incident happened on Monday around 16:00 hours in Mwanamwale area.
Ms Chikwanda identified the suspect as Malawo Mwakonela of Habeenzu village in Chief Nalubamba’s area.
“Mwakonela is alleged to have raped an 87-year-old woman on June 2 this year and the incident happened around 16:20 hours at a place called Mwanamwale,” she said.
Ms Chikwanda said police have detained Mwakonela and he will appear in court soon.
And police in Zambezi have arrested two people for alleged examination malpractices.
The two suspects have been identified as Reuben Ngomi, 20, and Justin Katanga both of Mushona village in Zambezi.
North-Western Province commissioner of police Eugene Sibote said yesterday that the incident happened on June 2, 2014 between 08:00 hours and 13:00 hours at Zambezi Secondary School.
“What happened was that Ngomi on Monday went into an examination room at Zambezi Boarding High School and wrote English paper one and two GCE examinations on behalf of his friend Justin Katanga,” Mr Sibote said.
He said Ngomi again on Tuesday went to the school and attempted to write Mathematics paper one on behalf of Katanga and it was discovered that he was not the actual candidate.
Mr Sibote said the matter was reported to police and Ngomi was arrested, charged with unauthorised possession of examination materials while Katanga was also apprehended and charged with disclosure of examination information.
He said police have detained Ngomi and Katanga and they will appear in court soon.
Mr Sibote warned candidates sitting for GCE examinations to desist from examination malpractices.
He also urged examination invigilators to scrutinise the identities of candidates before allowing them into examination rooms.
And police in Solwezi have picked up a body of a 23-year-old man of Island township in Solwezi suspected to have been murdered for ritual purposes.
Mr Sibote identified the deceased as Mathews Chewe.
He said the body was dumped in Solwezi River with some body parts missing.
Police suspect Mr Chewe was murdered between 20:00 hours on Sunday and 06:00 hours on Monday.
Mr Sibote said police visited the scene and found the lower part of the body in the water and the upper part on dry land.
He said police conducted a physical inspection on the body and discovered that the genitals, ears, eyes, two left hand fingers and lips were missing.
Police have arrested two people in connection with the murder but withheld their identities for fear of jeopardising investigations.
He said the suspects worked with Mr Chewe to mould bricks for a certain man in Mushitala area.
Mr Sibote said the three were paid K50 and went to drink beer together before Mr Chewe was discovered dead.
And police in Mwinilunga have retrieved the body of a 16-year-old Grade 10 pupil of Mwinilunga Secondary School who drowned in Lunga River on Sunday between 14:00 hours and 15:00 hours.
Mr Sibote identified the deceased as Joshua Lwipa Police retrieved the body on Tuesday around 16:00 hours.
The body is in Mwinilunga District Hospital mortuary.
