PRESS RELEASE
“On behalf of UNZAPASA executive committee, I wish to strongly advise Mr. Christopher Yaluma, Minister of mines, energy and water development, to consider introducing a bill in the National assembly aimed at abolishing the energy regulation board [ERB].
Apart from approving hikes in fuel and electricity tariffs, it is extremely difficult for people to appreciate the relevance of this statutory body. The country stands to save a lot of money by abolishing this board. Functions of the ERB should be done by a small department at the ministry of energy.
Meanwhile, UNZAPASA would like to advise the Minister of local government to consider making drastic amendments to the local government service commission [LGSC] act.
In its current form, the commission is very much against the tenets of decentralization. Instead of employing, promoting, transferring and disciplining all council employees across the country, the commission should only be mandated to deal with principal council officers.”
