Opposition Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) president Charles Milupi says calling for the stepping aside of Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda and Bank of Zambia (BoZ) governor Michael Gondwe is not the solution for responding to the economic situation in the country.
Mr. Milupi says this is because personally does not target individual Cabinet Ministers on national issues as he understands that members of Cabinet who include the republican President have collective responsibilities.
Mr. Milupi says this is also why he holds the position that both Mr. Chikwanda and Dr. Gondwe are not to blame for the weakening of the Kwacha and the overall performance of Zambia’s economy.
Mr. Milupi has told Qfm news in a telephone interview it is the system under which the country is currently being governed that is to blame.
He says the current governance system has given too much power to the President and therefore making it difficult for Cabinet Ministers to have the freedom to act independently.
The ADD leader says this also boils down to the need of changing the current constitution that has endowed the President with too much powers.
And government had recently attributed the volatility of the Kwacha to reduced export earnings as a result of the falling copper prices on the international market, high liquidity in the market and speculation by the market players.
