A Manager at Mount Meru filling station in Kawambwa has committed suicide by poisoning herself following pressure over missing Kerosene.
Luapula Province Police Commissioner,Malcolm Mulenga,who confirmed the incident in the statement yesterday named the deceased as Ireen Njapau.
Mulenga said Njapau ,30,of Kwawambwa committed suicide At Bwela Guesthouse after taking doom,a poisonous liquid between 07:00 hours and 08:00 hours.
“NJapau,a manager at Mount Meru Filling station in Kawabwa committed suicide by taking a poisonous doom liquid.She was rushed to Kawambwa District Community Hospital where she died after a few hours,”Mulenga siad.
Mulenga said the deceased left a note which reads ,”It is difficult to understand how things are hapening over fuel at the filling station.”
A Mount Meru director only identified as Sitali said he would not comment because it was Police case.A source at the filling station confirmed that the filling station had been recording huge loses as the result of a leaking under-ground kerosene storage tank.
The source who declined to be named,said it was sad that”the spillage of domestic kerosene has now started claiming lives,” The source said Njapau’s death could have been as the result of pressure by her superiors account for the losses.
“Nobody knows how thousand s of litres are lost.A problem was noticed whereby a the tank might have been damaged .Despite management knowing this ,nothing has happened to rectify the problem.People have been fired and resigned on their own because of the losses.
It is said sad Njapau failed to handle the pressure said the source.
And source called on the Energy Regulation Board(ERB) and the Zambia Environmental management Agency (ZEMA) to quickly inspect Mount Meru Filling station in Kawambwa beacause people’s Lives could be in danger due to suspected domestic Kerosene spillages.
