POLICE in Kitwe are holding a 47-year-old clergyman for allegedly having sex with nine young girls, aged between 14 and 20 years, from his church.
Copperbelt commissioner of police Joyce Kasosa said the incident happened between 2010 and 2013 in Kitwe’s Kapoto Township.
Ms Kasosa named the clergyman as Bishop Dominic Kanyika Nyondo of Holy Fire Ministries, who is detained at Riverside Police Station.
She said the suspect was sleeping with the girls at a mountain at the former Kitwe City Council farm across the Kafue River.
“The bishop used to ask the girls to accompany him to the bush for prayers where he would strip them naked, apply milk on their bodies and later have sex with them,” she charged.
Ms Kasosa said the suspect is likely to be charged with defilement, indecent assault and rape once investigations are completed.
“The man would sleep with the girls in the name of exorcising ghosts from them. This is very sad and it is just ignorance on the part of the girls. The Bible is very clear when it comes to exorcising demons or ghosts from a person,” she said.
