ZEMA Sues Company For Non Conduction Of Environmental Impact Assessment

A company dealing in cement and lime production in Chilanga district has been sued by the Zambia Environmental management agency for failure to undertake an environmental impact assessment plant before setting up a construction plant.
GMT stones and Limeco resources company representative Harrison Phiri has since pleaded guilty to two counts of willfully neglecting to undertake an environmental impact assessment and failure to prepare and submit a project brief.
Mr. Phiri appeared before Chief resident magistrate Joshua Banda for plea.
Particulars of the offence are that between October 28 2013 and February 19 2014, the company proceeded to commence the construction of the lime and cement plant eat a farm in Chilanga without having undergone an environmental impact assessment process.
