A DUMP truck operator at Barrick Lumwana mining company in Solwezi has died after he was involved in an accident on Saturday.
Company general manager Bill MacNevin told the Daily Nation in a statement yesterday that Peter Chanda, 36, who had been working for the company for six years, died from injuries after the accident.
“Lumwana Mining Company regrets to advise that there has been a fatality at its Chimiwungo Open Pit in Solwezi, North-Western Province, involving one of its dump truck operators, Mr. Peter M. Chanda, aged 36 who had been employed by the company for over six years,” Mr. MacNevin said.
Mr. MacNevin said his company had notified relevant Government authorities about the accident and pledged that the company would cooperate in making sure that the cause of the accident was ascertained.
“Mr. Chanda succumbed to injuries sustained during a mine vehicle accident. All relevant Government authorities have been notified and the company is fully cooperating to ascertain the cause.
“ Our thoughts and prayers are with Peter’s family at this time of tragic loss,” he said.
