POLICE in Mwinilunga have arrested a depot manager and a security guard
for Nyiombo Investment for theft of over 2,000 bags of top dressing
fertilizer.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in North Western Province Bonnie Kapeso who
confirmed the arrest said the police were thoroughly investigating the
matter.
Sources at Nyiombo Investment in Mwinilunga revealed that the depot
manager identified as Mutembo Joseph, 49, and Brown Kaumba, 54, a security
guard, were arrested yesterday and charged with theft of 2,215 bags of
urea fertilizer which have gone missing.
The sources said the missing fertilizer is what remained after Nyiombo
finished delivering the commodity under government’s Fertilizer Support
Programme (FISP) in Mwinilunga.
“These are the ones responsible for the depot and the matter was reported
yesterday that fertilizer is missing by the regional manager for Nyiombo
Investment in North Western province Mr. Kondwani Fisale. The matter was
investigated and the two were picked by police that were led by the
officer-in-charge for Mwinilunga Boniface Chilufya. We are told they will
appear in court soon,” a source said.
They said the fertilizer was suspected to have been stolen in the night at
the Nyiombo shade which was located at a place called Kapanda in
Mwinilunga.
And Fisale who also confirmed the incident said he reported the matter to
the police over the weekend after discovering that fertilizer was missing.
“In Mwinilunga, Nyiombo has finished delivering the contracted tonnage. We
were allocated 680 metric tonnes of Urea and 690 metric tonnes of
Compound D. The allocation for Mwiniluga has been made and the District
Agriculture Coordinator (DACO) can confirm. What is missing is not for the
farmers but what remained for Nyiombo,” said Fisale.
