I HAVE lost somebody who was a comforter when my husband (Michael Sata) died; I will really miss her, mourned Christine Kaseba.
The former first lady who was among the many dignitaries that attended Regina Chiluba’s send off prayers at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka on Sunday said she had lost a comforter who stood by her when her husband passed on.
She said Regina had fought a good fight and her dedication to God was unwavering.
“She fought a good fight and ran a good race. Her dedication to God was unwavering. I had an opportunity of visiting her in Hospital when she was very sick and all she did each time we spoke was to ask to be prayed for. ‘Can you pray for me’ is what she said…She was ready for it,” said Kaseba after the church service.
“I have lost somebody who was really a comforter when Mr Sata died, you know how it is, when you are left alone. She was always encouraging me, strengthening me to go another day because she had been through it. She was able to tell me all the procedures I needed to do after the death of my husband. Her loss has really affected me because I was closer to her even in the MMD days.
But I think our relationship reached another level as widows of former presidents. I will miss her greatly.”
Regina died last week Sunday at UTH after battling with cancer.
She was receiving treatment from November last year at India’s Apollo Hospital before she was brought back a week before her death.
Among those that attended Regina’s send-off service included UPND president Hakainde Hichilema and his vice Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, finance minister Felix Mutati, former Republican vice-president Enoch Kavindele, former tourism minister in the MMD government Peter Machungwa and former first lady Maureen Mwanawasa.
