United Party for National Development(UPND)leader Hakainde Hichilemahas been arrested and detained at Livingstone Central Police Station.
This is in connection with the death of PF member Henry Chanda who died in a violent clash involving PF and UPND cadres in Livingstone last evening.
Two parliamentarians, Garry Nkombo of Mazabuka and Request Muntanga of Kalomo central were also arrested last evening together with other party officials in connection with the same.
Mr. Hichilema who was reportedly wanted by the police was arrested this afternoon at around 15:30 hours.
The UPND leader confirmed his arrest to QFM in a telephone interview from the Police Station in Livingstone.
Mr. Hichilema has described his arrest as brutality of the highest order.
He says he is surprised as to why he is being linked to the death of the PF member when he was on a live radio interview the time the clashes took place.
There Livingstone parliamentary by-election campaigns have so far claimed the lives of two Patriotic Front members, with several cadres of the two main competing parties sustaining injuries.
