The Football Association of Zambia describes as stupid media reports from Ghana alleging Zambia was planning to fix its game against Lesotho.
Media reports emanating from Ghana have alleged that Zambia is trying to buy their 2014 FIFA World Cup Group D game against Lesotho to be played on March 24 in Maseru.
“Sorry to use this word but it’s stupid rumours. Yes, it’s been brought to our attention,” FAZ spokesperson Erick Mwanza said.
And another senior FAZ official described the story as mind games from the Ghana camp.
“It is all just mind games from Ghana,” the official said.
The reports allege that speculation was rife in Zambia that FAZ was using every means necessary to stay top of Group D in the 2014 qualifiers.
The report went further to allege that FIFA was aware of the plot and would send officials for the game to monitor any irregularities.
Zambia currently lead Group D on six points after collecting three points off Sudan who fielded an ineligible player during the two sides opening Group D match on June 2, 2012 that Chipolopolo lost 2-0 in Khartoum.
Ghana, who were beaten 1-0 by Zambia six days later in Ndola, are second in Group D with three points, Sudan drop to third from top with one point while Lesotho are bottom also on a point.
