POLICE in Chingola have arrested a 21-year-old man of Nchanga North for allegedly killing a 23-year-old man during a drinking spree.
Copperbelt police commissioner Mary Tembo said in an interview yesterday that the incident happened on Monday at Mwalanga Bar.
Ms Tembo named the deceased as Eudy Lwanga of house number 40, Masuku road in Kabundi East, while the suspect is Maiden Chimbila of house number 15 Mansa road, Nchanga North in Chingola.

“Mr Lwanga and Chimbila along with other people were drinking at Mwalanga Bar in Nchanga North and a fight ensued. Chimbila reportedly used a bottle to hit Mr Lwanga on the head,” Ms Tembo said.

She said Mr Lwanga fell and became unconscious and Chimbila fled the scene but he was apprehended by members of the public.

“Mr Lwanga sustained a cut on the head and was rushed to Nchanga South Hospital and referred to Kitwe Central Hospital, where he died,” Ms Tembo said.

She said Chimbila has been arrested and charged with murder while Mr Lwanga’s body is in the Kitwe Central Hospital mortuary.
And police have arrested a member of a gang calling itself Bachondo for attacking and injuring a 17-year-old grade 10 pupil of Sekela High School.

Police believe the gang, which has been terrorising Chingola residents, is made up of pupils from various schools in the district. They use catapults in their attacks.

Ms Tembo said yesterday that the incident happened on Tuesday during an inter-school sports competition at Nchanga stadium.
She named the suspect as Mutale Sungule of house number 36, Sopani Street, Nchanga in Chingola while the victim has been identified as Ngasi Mwakalinge.

“The incident happened when Ngasi and other pupils from Sekela High School at Nchanga stadium were cheering outstanding pupils competing in various races.

“During the 400 metre race when a pupil from Sekela High School was leading, pupils from Chingola High School got angry and Sungule reached for a catapult and hit Ngasi,” Ms Tembo said.
She said Ngasi sustained a deep cut on the forehead and became unconscious. He is admitted to Nchanga North Hospital but his condition is stable.

“Sungule is believed to be a member of a gang called Bachondo, made up of students from various schools,” Ms Tembo said.
