Woman Placed On Defence Over Plasma TV

A WOMAN accused of stealing a television set she grabbed from a man she accused of not paying her money after having sex with her has been put on her defence for housebreaking and theft. This is in a case Mwape Kasonde of Misisi is accused of housebreaking and theft. On July 20 this year in Lusaka, Kasonde broke and entered Mr William Chirwa’s house and stole a Concord plasma television set valued at K3,200.

When the matter came up on Friday, chief resident magistrate Lameck Mwale said the prosecution’s evidence was enough to warrant the placing of Kasonde on her defence. “Having perused through the evidence adduced by the State, I find that a prema facie case has been established against the accused,” Magistrate Mwale said. Earlier during trial, an arresting officer testified that he investigated a housebreaking and theft case in which Mwape was accused of stealing a Concord TV.

Spider Chola of Chawama Police Station said during investigations, Kasonde was already in custody and after being interviewed, she denied the charge. But during cross-examination, Kasonde denied stealing the TV but that she was just found with it in Mr Chirwa’s house. “The reason they found me in the house is because he (Mr Chirwa) slept with me and never gave me money, so I wanted to get anything that I could found,” Kasonde said.
