A ONE-YEAR-OLD baby has died while another child is battling for his life at Isoka District Hospital after being bitten by a snake in Mafinga district. The two children were playing in an unfinished building when they were attacked by a puff adder, a venomous serpent. Muchinga Province Commissioner of Police Joel Njase said in an interview yesterday that the snake attacked the children around 15:00 hours on Monday in Manzobvu village.
Mr Njase said police received a report from Beauty Sakala that her two grandchildren, Charles Simukonda, 4, and Inness Namukonda had been bitten by a snake. He said Ms Sakala told police that the children were playing in an abandoned building when she heard them crying and she rushed to check on them. “When she went to check, she saw the snake and quickly informed her husband,” Mr Njase said. Ms Sakala rushed the children to Mwenewishi Rural Health Centre where the younger one, Inness, died after 40 minutes
