With Chipolopolo first choice goal minder Kennedy Mweene out of the next World Cup qualifier, competition for that slot is heating with Red Arrows shot stopper Danny Munyau fancying his chances.

A star of the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada, Munyau says he is working hard be considered for June’s back-to-back World Cup matches against Lesotho and Sudan at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The inspirational Mweene was red carded in Zambia’s 1-all away draw to Lesotho ruling him out of the return leg against Lesotho.

“I am working very hard so that I get selected for the game against Lesotho,” Munyau said in an interview with bolazambia.com

“Our team has done well today and I am hoping that I remain consistent with my team here because it will increase my chances of selection.”

He added: “ For me the process has been consistent, I was in the Under-20 team that played in World Cup in 2007 so I am not surprised I have [only] been considered a few times now at senior level. But the final decision lies with the coach and his bench all I can do is work hard.”

Munyau will be in competition with Power Dynamos’ Joshua Titima (who came on for Mweene in Lesotho), Racha Kola with Kalililo Kakonje a distant choice.
