Govt Commences Clean Up Of Public Service Payroll On the Copperbelt

Government has today commenced the clean-up of the civil servants payroll and will for the next two weeks conduct a verification and validation of the 35000 government workers appearing under the copperbelt province.

Addressing the media on the Copperbelt today, deputy secretary to the cabinet Dr. Martin Mtonga revealed that following president Edgar Lungu’s directive to have the civil servants payroll normalized, corrective measures will be taken in the 10 districts of the copperbelt after the two weeks process is done.

Dr. Mtonga says various service commissions will work with relevant heads of departments to ensure all the civil servants drawing salaries from government are in their correct stations and are being paid accordingly.

Meanwhile, Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe says civil servants must cooperate their remuneration to good service delivery to the general public further revealing that some civil servants have continued drawing rural hardship allowances despite serving in urban areas.

He states that all heads of department will meet the Deputy Secretary to the cabinet Dr. Mtonga at Levi Mwanawasa stadium today to kick start the verification process.
