President Edgar Lungu

President Edgar Lungu has thanked voters in Malambo, Petauke and Mulobezi constituencies for honouring the PF with resounding victories.

The President says the victory is not for the PF alone but it is for the people of Zambia that have continued to show support to the ruling party.

President Lungu who has congratulated PF members for the job well done says the victory has demonstrated that Zambians have rejected regionalism and tribal politics because they believe in the “One Zambia, One Nation” motto.

He says this further show that Zambians remain ready to dismantle any regionally based political strongholds, because that kind of politics negates the gains of democracy, freedom and unity as a country.

The President says he will continue to champion national unity across tribe, political, religious and all other affiliations because that is why he was elected.

The President says he is confident that the support the people have shown him will be sustained until the 2016 Presidential election.

This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by Special Assistant to the President For Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda.

And the Head of State Further says he together with the PF does not take the victory for granted but is happy that it is a demonstration of the faith and confidence Zambians have in the ruling Party.

President Lungu has urged all PF supporters to be magnanimous in victory and appealed to those who lost also to be gracious in defeat.

And the President is happy that elections where conducted in a free and fair atmosphere save for a few incidents, which he says police must ensure that they do not recur again.

He added that he will continue to perform his duties by bringing together the cream of the nation from different political and professional backgrounds because everyone is called to do their best in serving Zambia.

And the President says those who seek to sow seeds of discord by spreading falsehoods and hate speech, the outcome of the by-elections is a reminder to them that the goodwill of the people will always triumph over ill-will.

President Lungu says the PF administration shall continue to soldier on with developing the country and creating better lives for all citizens.

Acid Woman

Police detectives in Lagos have arrested a man for allegedly bathing his former lover with acid after she jilted him. Although nobody was sure that the person who bathed the victim, Rosemary Nanaifa, with acid was her former lover, but the lady said she was sure. According to Nanaifa, 23, her former lover, Paul Nwokobia, whom she dated for five years, had repeatedly threatened her since she dumped him. She said she never knew he would go to the extent of bathing her with acid.

Speaking from her hospital bed at the Female Surgery, Ward B, University of Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Lagos, Nanaifa, a caterer, said the incident happened on June 3, around 8pm. The matter was reported at Itire Police Division. She said: “I was at work one day when a private number called me around 4pm.

The caller was a lady. She said she wanted me to bake cake for her. She said she would call back in the evening.” According to her, the woman called around 8:30pm and told Nanaifa to meet her at Surulere. She said she would be in a red car. She said: “I was wearing a red blouse too. When I got to the spot, I did not see any red car and she was not calling back. Suddenly, I noticed someone drew my hair from behind and suddenly poured acid on my face down to my waist.” As she felt the debilitating pains, she fell to the ground, screaming in pains.

People later rushed her to the hospital. They also alerted her family. “When it happened, I couldn’t see very well, but I’m sure it was a man. The man fled the area immediately.” Nanaifa left her boyfriend last September, and since then, he had been threatening her. She said: “I didn’t know his plans. I left him because he did not have a stable job and he wasn’t honest. I decided to move on with my life.” According to her, her family had spent over N200,000 on her treatment. She said that she went to work at a factory after her secondary school.

The victim’s elder brother, Eric, said: “There’s no big deal in jilting your lover. People do it every day. I didn’t expect Paul to have gone to that extreme. I was the one who led policemen to his house. He did not suspect we would trace the incident to him.” When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP, Kenneth Nwos, said the suspect and three others had been arrested and taken to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.

Nollywood secretThe show of shame is still raging. Two Nollywood actresses Biodun Okeowo and Wura Gold are in the middle of a fierce battle to wash their hands off a lesbianism tale and it all depends on who can lie most.

According to the most popular one, Biodun Okeowo she and Wura Gold were close friends until the day she asked her to become her lover. The mother of two said she was forced to distance herself from Wura ever since that day and that was how hell was let loose.

“Wura has been bad mouthing me and saying all sorts of things against me.”

Best of Nollywood reached out to them and both ladies pushed the blame on each other.

In her reaction, Biodun said: “…I started to give her space when I started realizing the kind of person she truly was. She told me she wants us to become lovers as in becoming Lesbian partners. I told her I wasn’t interested… And that was it. Wura started going around calling me names. She spoils my name in front of everyone. Recently when I went for ‘TESFIR’ Ramadan Lecture, some people saw me and called me friends with Wura Gold, I told them she is not my friend.

“At least not any more. Liz Dasilva then decided to come in to resolve the cause of the quarrel between us. Liz then called myself and Wura on a conference call and tried talking to us. When I opened up to Liz on the reason Wura is fighting me, Wura started to curse me and my children.”

On her part, Wura Gold said: ”It was Biodun Okeowo that asked me to become her lover and I turned her down. Why would she turn things? People are so funny. You can go ahead and ask the likes of Anita Julius and Liz DaSilva at least they have slept in my house, if there was ever anytime I made such silly advances at any of them,” she said.

– One person is lying and one is saying the truth. That is the irony of life. But the liar knows herself.

Dear editor,
The story written by your staffer Hone Siame in the Zambia Daily Mail issue of June 26, 2015 is very timely.
The residents of Chambishi should be granted district status. Once this is done it will open up the district to accelerated development.
Chambishi which is under Kalulushi district has the potential to develop and bring government services closer to the people.
The granting of district status to Chambishi will also create the much needed jobs in both the public and private sectors.
It is my prayer that Government will take the call by Chambishi residents seriously.

TP Mazembe are demanding US$1 million from French Ligue 1 outfit Lille for the transfer of Zambia skipper Rainford Kalaba.
According to French media and sources close to both parties, Lille coach Herve Renard is keen on reuniting with the 2012 Africa Cup winner.
Mazembe have received an official bid for the Chipolopolo midfielder.
The Democratic Republic of Congo outfit’s demand to have the first option to buy the player when he leaves Lille is what has stalled negotiations.
It is, however, believed Mazembe’s stance is meant to force Lille to change their position on Kalaba, who is one of the French club’s top summer transfer targets.
Club chairperson Moses Katumbi said the four-time African champions are still looking at Lille’s offer.
“We are in negotiations with Lille. They have given us an offer and we are studying it but the problem is that we want a better future for our player [Kalaba].
“You need to look at the future and transfer fee for Kalaba because you know if a player is coming from Africa they are offering just a little money. And that is what is killing a lot of teams [in Africa],” Katumbi told French newspaper L’equipe.
Renard has already lured 21-year-old Ivorian international defender Wilfried Kanon from Dutch Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag.
Kanon, a member of the Ivory Coast squad that won the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, has signed a four-year contract.
Kalaba joined Mazembe from Portuguese outfit Sporting Braga in 2010.
He was Mazembe’s top scorer last season netting nine goals.

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) members of Parliament were yesterday elated when three newly elected MPs were ushered into the House to take oath before Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini.

But it was Ms Siliya who stole the limelight drowning the House with shouts of “Dora! Dora! Dora!” as one MP shouted: “We will ‘kolopa’ (mop all the votes) you in 2016 this same way.”
Hordes of PF cadres gathered outside Parliament precincts to give solidarity to the new PF MPs.

Dr-Katele-KalumbaRENOWNED politician Katele Kalumba says the Patriotic Front (PF)’s resounding victories in the three parliamentary by-elections in Malambo, Petauke Central and Mulobezi prove that Zambians countrywide have accepted the ruling party while the other political parties have remained tribal and regional.
Dr Kalumba said the PF has become a nationally accepted political party with an agenda for all Zambians irrespective of their tribe or background.
In an interview yesterday, Dr Kalumba said he was optimistic that the PF would win all the three seats because it cares for poor people unlike other known parties, which are just for the few rich and geographical entities with similar customs.
“I want to congratulate President Lungu and the PF Central Committee for choosing the right candidates for the people,” Dr Kalumba said.
He also said the campaign teams did their best to explain the PF policies to the grass roots.
“Zambians are great readers of politics. Let us give them credit. They know things have changed and the wind is blowing in favour of the PF,” he said.
Dr Kalumba urged MMD members who are still in doubt to join the PF.
“Zambians are determined to fight back forces of division, social perversion, insults, and absurd values and puffed-up egos,” he said.
Dr Kalumba said Zambians want a humble leader as demonstrated by President Lungu.

Member of the Patriotic Front Central Committee Jean Kapata has suggested that President Edgar Lungu should be given chance to serve two full terms.

Ms Kapata says the current term that President Lungu is serving was not his but for late Republican President Michael Sata and that he is just finishing it through to 2016.

Ms Kapata, who is also Mandemvu PF Member of Parliament, says President Lungu should be given a chance to stand even in 2021 so as to serve two full terms and finished the one left by President Sata.

She says the current debate on President Lungu serving a full term now through to 2020 is unconstitutional and that people should not manipulate the constitution.

The Tourism and Arts Minister adds that the constitution is very clear on such issues and that it would be unfair for some people to start championing for some issues.

CSPR Advises Yaluma To Call For ‘Load Shedding’ Indaba

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) in Eastern Province has called on government to call for a national indaba to discuss the current country wide power outages.

CSPR Eastern Province Coordinator Maxson Nkhoma has told QFM News that his organization has noted with serious concern the continued increase in loading shedding and indications from Zesco are that the current situation may continue until the next rain season.

Mr. Nkhoma says revelations from Zesco that the power utility campaign is now generating 500 megawatts instead of the normal 1,050 megawatts at Kariba Power station implies that the power electricity company is now generating less electricity by 50% and there is a possibility that this reduction can worsen in few months to come due to lower water levels at the Kariba power station Dam.

Mr. Nkhoma says a national power deficit of 50% has potential to negatively affect the end of year Gross Domestic Product (GDP) due to poor production in key sectors such as Mining who are now required to scale down their operations due to rationing of power.

He says power outages will therefore worsen household and national poverty levels as majority Zambians who work in industries where power is key for production may lose their jobs because of non availability of power.

He is of the view that Zesco working together with other stakeholders can find short term solutions that could be implemented with support and Political will from Government to address the current load shedding before it escalates into unmanageable levels.

Mr. Nkhoma says Government should take time and learn from South Africa on how they have been addressing the power deficit which hit that Country in the recent past.

He has asked Government through the Ministry of Energy and Water Development to immediately call for a National Indaba to allow stakeholders provide suggestions on how the Country can holistically deal with the current situation.

He explains that a national indaba will accord Zesco to fully explain the power deficit to citizens and what measures are being put in place to address this issue if there is any.

And in another development, the continuous load shedding of power by ZESCO has inspired local fuel vendors in Kasempa district to increase the fuel price to as high as K13 per litre.

According to Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU), the situation has also compelled motorists to also increase transport fares on some routes within Kasempa district from K10.00 to K 15.00.

Kabova Sues Power Lee Lotteries Over Contract Breach

COMEDIAN Victor Chaushi has sued Power Lee Lotteries Limited for breach of contract involving K120,000. In this matter in the Lusaka High Court, Chaushi, also known as Kabova, is claiming payment of over K68,000 and interest for non-payment of money he worked for in promotions for the lottery company for three months.
Chaushi submitted in a statement of claim filed on June 27 in the principal registry that on November 14, 2014, he entered into a contract with Power Lee Lotteries Limited, the defendant, for the performance of road shows to promote the company and its lottery business.
Chaushi further averred that it was an express term of the contract that he would be paid the total sum of K120,000 over a period of three months and that upon receiving an advance payment of K20,000, he would get the remaining amount in weekly installments of K8,333. He submitted that after he had received only K52,000, before the expiration of three months as provided for in the contract, Power Lee Lotteries Limited purported to terminate the contract without giving him any reasons, a situation he argued was in breach of the contract. Chaushi also claimed that prior to the signing of the contract, he was scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom and the United States of America where he was scheduled to stage performances, but was persuaded not to do so by Power Lee Lotteries. During one of the Power Lee Lotteries road shows, Chaushi submitted that he lost his mobile phone valued at K7,500, which the defendants had agreed to compensate, but to no avail.
Chaushi is seeking the court to order Power Lee Lotteries to pay him the K68,000 being balance on the agreed contract sum of K120,000. He is further claiming for compensation of K7,500 for the loss of his mobile phone and also K50,000 for lost opportunities when he was scheduled to travel to the UK and USA.
Chaushi is also demanding damages for breach of contract and any other relief the court may deem fit and costs.

4 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Eat Bread

$
0
0

a lot of us love eating bread and do so, on a daily basis. But it isn’t exactly the most healthy foods that there are. Here’s why you should stay away from bread!

It doesn’t have many nutrients:

Unlike other food items, bread, especially white bread and items made from it lack nutrients. You’re not getting any fiber, you’re not getting the wholesomeness of grains — you’re basically getting nothing important out of it. While bread made of wheat is a little better, if you’re looking for nutrients, bread made out of whole grains are what you must opt for.

It contains too much salt:

Most bread varieties, especially the processe3d kind that you buy from the supermarket, contain lots of salt. So if you eat lesser bread, the amount of sodium in your body is significantly reduced. Of course, one slice of bread, every now and then won’t do any damage. In fact, you can bake your own bread at home, without adding too much salt.

It makes you gain weight

If you eat too much of bread, because of all carbs, salt, refined sugar and preservatives that it contains, it can make you put on pounds! Eating it in moderation is fine; especially when you take the time to make sure it’s as healthy as possible.

It’s not a wholesome, filling meal

Since certain kinds of bread lack nutrients, when you eat them, you might not feel satiated, because it’s not filling!

UPND Should Force HH To Retire From Politics -Mwaliteta

OBVIOUS Mwaliteta says the UPND should force its leader Hakainde Hichilema to retire from politics because he is becoming a liability to the opposition political party.
Commenting on the PF’s victory in Mulobezi, Mwaliteta, who was leading the campaign team in Machile, said the UPND was no longer attractive to people. “They should just go back to the drawing board and start thinking of dissolving that party and start a new UPND with new people. They should change the top leadership; they should tell Hakainde to retire and leave other members who will see sense in the One Zambia, One Nation motto. He (Hakainde) is a liability to them,” Mwaliteta said. He said if the top leadership of UPND was changed, it might change people’s perception of being a regional party. Mwaliteta said with the current leadership, the UPND would find it very difficult to win the 2016 general elections. “If you lose three by-elections and you are only remaining with eight months before the general elections, how do you recover? What makes a good president are not riches but humbleness,” he said.
Mwaliteta, who is also Lusaka Province minister, said Zambians had now seen that they could only get development from the PF government hence the victories in Mulobezi, Petauke and Malambo. “Zambians are thirsty for development and have now realised that they can only get development from the PF government, which has assured massive infrastructure development in the country, which was lacking,” he said.
“Zambians have confidence in the PF hence the results of the parliamentary by-elections…. The message is clear and we are very committed to making sure that development reaches the furthest of this country; to the poor of the poorest.” Mwaliteta said it was sad that the Mulobezi by-elections were marred by violent incidents. “I know the UPND very well in that if they know that they will lose, they resort to violence and I thank God that I was not there because they would have given an excuse to say it is Mwaliteta.
I was saved by an illness,” he said. Mwaliteta added that today the people of Mulobezi were travelling in comfort instead of being bundled up in the same train carriages with livestock as was the case during the MMD government.
He said Mulobezi was too poor to vote for an opposition member of parliament, who would just go to Parliament and drink tea and get an allowance without facilitating any development.
