Woman Placed On Defence Over Plasma TV

A WOMAN accused of stealing a television set she grabbed from a man she accused of not paying her money after having sex with her has been put on her defence for housebreaking and theft. This is in a case Mwape Kasonde of Misisi is accused of housebreaking and theft. On July 20 this year in Lusaka, Kasonde broke and entered Mr William Chirwa’s house and stole a Concord plasma television set valued at K3,200.

When the matter came up on Friday, chief resident magistrate Lameck Mwale said the prosecution’s evidence was enough to warrant the placing of Kasonde on her defence. “Having perused through the evidence adduced by the State, I find that a prema facie case has been established against the accused,” Magistrate Mwale said. Earlier during trial, an arresting officer testified that he investigated a housebreaking and theft case in which Mwape was accused of stealing a Concord TV.

Spider Chola of Chawama Police Station said during investigations, Kasonde was already in custody and after being interviewed, she denied the charge. But during cross-examination, Kasonde denied stealing the TV but that she was just found with it in Mr Chirwa’s house. “The reason they found me in the house is because he (Mr Chirwa) slept with me and never gave me money, so I wanted to get anything that I could found,” Kasonde said. The matter was adjourne

GOVERNMENT has released K2.5 million to Zampost to stabilise its operations. Postmaster general Brighton Ngoma said in interview on Friday that the funds are an addition to the initial K5 million which was released to, among other things, pay salary arrears to employees. Mr Ngoma said Government has assured management that more funds will be channelled to the company to settle all payment. “Government has so far released K7.5 million from January to date.

The money has partly been used to pay salary arrears and it has stabilised the company’s operations. “With assistance from Government, we have been able to ensure that our workers are paid monthly while we settle the outstanding arrears. We have a plan which will ensure that these arrears are settled soon,” Mr Ngoma said.

He said Zampost will soon relaunch its express mail services to enhance revenue collection. Mr Ngoma said the company will also start providing e-wallet services to enable its clients to transfer and receive money, as well as to pay for bills. He said Zampost has paid K42,000 to Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) to address administrative issues before members of the public can start to access the service.

Tetiwe Mweemba

With the commemoration of the Insurance week starting tomorrow September 16, 2019, the Pensions and Insurance Association ( PIA) has acknowledged the many challenges the insurance sector is faced with.

Speaking at the launch of the 7th Insurance Week which runs from the 16thto the 21 of September 2019 under the theme: Raising an Insured generation, PIA acting Registrar Titus Nkwale announced that in view of the many challenges the sector is faced with, the regulatory body has created market conduct which will help in reducing the many challenges the sector is faced with.

“To respond to these challenges, the authority has created a new unit called market conduct. This unit will help with treatment of customers fairly and resolve some of these challenges.as the regulator, we are aware about some of the challenges that are in the industry which range from genuine complaints of unfair treatment of customers, not being aware of the scope of cover for their product to failure to read the ‘fine print’ or ‘jargon’ at the back of the cover notes. Further, there are also disputes on claim pay-outs due to non-availability of policy wordings that would have spelt out terms and conditions. Unnecessary delays in getting a claim settled is also another frustration faced by some policy holders,” Mr. Nkwale stated.

Mr. Nkwale also announced that the PIA with assistance from the World Bank was currently developing key fact statements.

Key Fact Statements(KFSs) are part of disclosure requirements that will assist in clarifying terms and conditions of insurance policies.  Further, KFSs may also assist in improving financial literacy among Zambians and help them make better choices on purchasing of insurance. It will therefore be mandatory for all insurance companies offering motor insurance, household or contents insurance, home owners insurance, funeral and life insurances to give a key fact statement to improve financial literacy among customers” he explained.

Mr. Nkwale said a total of K1,1 billion was in 2018 paid  by the insurers in claims.

In terms of claims, the industry recorded estimated gross claims of about K1.1 billion compared to K1.01 billion in 2017. This figure represents an industry that is responding to its clients at their point of need. This should help us understand that insurance is there to pay claims. That is the whole purpose of insurance as a financial protection tool,” Mr. Nkwale said.

He added that the industry recorded an overall increase of 16% in terms of gross written premium (GWP).

Over the years, the industry has been recording steady growth.in 2018; the industry recorded an overall increase of 16% in terms of gross written premium (GWP). In quantum, GWP increased to K 3,183 million from K 2,739 million recorded in 2017. General insurance business accounted for K1,908 million in 2018 as compared to K1,797 million in 2017 whilst long-term insurance business accounted for K1,275 in 2018 as compared to K941.6 million in 2017. Allow me to clarify that gross written premium does not represent profit, rather it is the money collected by insurers that will be secured to pay future claims. On certain policies, the claims can even exceed the premiums that have been paid, which is why a portion of premiums are ceded to reinsurers, for greater financial support,” Mr. Nkwale explained.

Speaking earlier, Insurers Association of Zambia (IAZ)president Paul Nkhoma observed that as a developing nation, it was important for the people of Zambia to plan for the various risks that threaten financial stability and economic gains.

Mr. Nkhoma stressed that there was need to understand that financial vulnerability was all the more reason to obtain insurance.

Some people would suggest that they would rather set aside spending on insurance during challenging economic times. For example, a new business needs more financial protection, not less. If a fire destroys their stock they may not have the finances to start again. It is better to secure a house with insurance rather than bear the cost of rebuilding if a flood causes damage. The same can be said about health and medical challenges,” Mr. Nkhoma explained.

He said insurance was a practical form of financial protection that would guard against excessive expenditure when misfortune strikes.

Mr. Nkhoma noted that millions of dollars are externalized every year as a result of individuals and companies that seek to cover outside the country when it can be provided locally which is a condition of the law.

“Insuring with locally based and registered insurers is one way of supporting local business and local employment and adds to the growth of the economy. I urge individuals and businesses to take this into consideration,” he emphasized.

He cited credit as one of the challenges the insurance sector is faced with.

There seems to be a bad culture when it comes to credit services. Many times insurance is given on credit or installment plans, but there is a high rate of default. This default has an impact when it comes to paying claims, financial reporting and the overall stability of companies,” Mr Nkhoma said

He called for culture change when it came to credit if individuals and businesses where to add value to the economy.

“We must work together with all stakeholders to find a solution. But the solution begins with all of us changing the way we handle credit, and considering how defaulting on payments affects other clients. I cannot overemphasize the impact this has on the industry, on claims payments and the economy,” Mr Nkhoma said

And IAZ has since requested the Government to priority finalizing the Insurance Bill.

“The insurance industry looks forward to the long awaited Insurance Bill finally going to Parliament and a new law being enacted. We humbly request that Government makes this important piece of Legislature a priority,” Mr. Nkhomaemphasized.

PF SG Davies Mwila has threatened to dismiss any member of the ZNBC Staff who proceeds to air any part of the Press Briefing held Kelvin Fine Bwalya – KBF earlier today.

It has apparently angered Mr Mwila that ZNBC staff did not seek clearance from the PF Secretariat before covering the KBF event at which he spoke on the need to respect and protect the institution of the Presidency.

Sources within the system have however indicated that the powers higher than Mr.Mwila have seen nothing wrong in both ZNBC covering KBF and in what KBF said with a source inside the Presidency stating that “It is shocking to see a person Mwila reported to have been working against the President, doing what Mwila should have done in strategically guiding the Presidency and opening it’s eyes to where its focus should be”.

More details to follow…

LAWYER Kelvin Bwalya has advised deregistered National Democratic Congress leader Chishimba
Kambwili and businessman Valden Findlay to settle their differences privately to avoid
dragging the presidency into disrepute.
Mr Bwalya said there is need to protect the presidency from unnecessary attacks, whether one likes the current office holder or not, to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) into the
country.
He said at a press briefing yesterday that Mr Kambwili can have issues with some of President Edgar Lungu’s associates but that can be resolved quietly and not through the media.

NDC leader Chishimba Kambwili addresses journalists at his house in Kabulonga on September 9, 2019 – Picture by Tenson Mkhala
“There is need to protect and defend the presidency as an institution. I have observed with great concern that we, as children and custodians of Zambia, are shamelessly betraying our history and future.
“Every nation has pillars and key among these pillars are institutions. It must be understood that the presidency is an institution of utmost importance to any democratic nation,” said Mr Bwalya, who was expelled from the Patriotic Front early this year.
He said it is everyone’s civic and patriotic duty to respect the presidency.

THE University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) has stopped sending patients abroad for cardiology
specialist treatment.
UTH cardiologist Lorita Kabwe says this is because the catheterisation laboratory which the
hospital uses to treat illnesses like heart attack and breathing problems now has new machinery.
She said in an interview that most heart illnesses and other conditions which were referred abroad can now be treated locally.
Dr Kabwe, a specialist in intervention cardiology, said there is no need for people to travel abroad for treatment because UTH is now able to conduct most of the procedures.
She said conditions such as defects and small holes in the heart are being handled by the medical team at the catheterisation laboratory.
Dr Kabwe said about 12 to 15 children have been
treated since the new equipment was bought.

FOUR Zambian trucks carrying spare parts which were hijacked in South Africa on Sunday have
been recovered.
However, the spare parts are missing. Three of the trucks were found abandoned in the industrial area of Steeledale, which is 15 kilometres from the crime scene in Wadesville while the other truck was dumped in Dragon within Johannesburg.
This is according to a statement yesterday by
first secretary for press and public relations at the Zambian High Commission in South Africa Naomi Nyawali.
“The four trucks were recovered by South African police in conjunction with a private vehicle tracking firm which respective companies engaged to provide tracking systems for the trucks,” she said.
Ms Nyawali said the trucks are parked at South African police FNB Impounding Yard in Soweto, awaiting further investigations.
“No arrests have been made so far but the trucks were found in good condition,” Ms Nyawali
said.
All the four Zambian drivers that were victims
of the hijacking are still in South Africa awaiting further instructions.
The trucks that were coming from Zambia to South Africa carrying different vehicle engines for reconditioning in Wadeville and Kempton Park
garages in South Africa were intercepted by hijackers.
Three trucks were hijacked in Wadesville, Germiston while one was intercepted in Joeslovo,
Gauteng Province.
The trucks were being driven by Katongo Mulenga, Boniface Chabala, Jimmy Kasenga and Charles Kakoma.
The drivers were tied with cables and bundled in a car before being dumped.
And Government has assured truck drivers crossing between Zambia and South Africa of
safety.
Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo said the South African government has given assurances that the trucks will move without hindrances or threats to drivers.
Mr Kampyongo said this in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, en route to Egypt.
This is according to a statement yesterday by first secretary for press and public relations at the Zambian Embassy in Ethiopia Inutu
Mwanza.
The minister said the case of the four Zambian trucks which were hijacked in South Africa is being investigated and could be a mere act of criminality.
Meanwhile, Mr Kampyongo said Zambia accepts the apology rendered by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa regarding attacks on foreign
nationals.
The apology was made during the funeral procession of former Zimbabwean President Robert

Kevin Hart’s Sex Tape Partner Sues Him For $60 Million And Claims Hart Conspired With A Friend To Secretly Record Their Encounter

The woman who went viral for featuring in a sex tape with Kevin Hart is suing the comedian for $60 million

Montia Sabbag claims in a new lawsuit Kevin Hart conspired with a friend to secretly record their encounter in a Vegas hotel room in 2017.

In the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, Sabbag claims recording the sex tape was all planned by Hart and his friend JT Jackson, who later was arrested for extortion. She says Hart was motivated by publicity, especially with an upcoming comedy tour, so he and JT allegedly hid the camera to record their encounter.

The suit claims Hart allowed Jackson into the Cosmopolitan Hotel suite so he could set up hidden video recording devices to capture the encounter between Hart and Sabbag.

Jackson was later charged with 2 counts of extortion relating to alleged efforts to get money out of Hart to keep the tape hidden. Jackson denied ever extorting the comedian.

Hart, who has already apologised to his wife for his infidelity, has repeatedly denied having any knowledge of the recording. He claims he, too, was a victim of Jackson’s extortion attempts.

Sabbag is suing for intentional infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy.

About 3 0 0 f i r s t – y e a r students who have benefitted from education loans to pursue science and social science programmes at Mulungushi University have been warned against engaging in vices like riots because Government sponsorship will be withdrawn. They have also been urged to focus on their education because the country needs their knowledge and skills. The students are the first ones at Mulungushi University to benefit from Government loans since the country’s third public university was established.

Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board chief executive officer Ireen Chirwa said the board is sponsoring students who are doing science and social science programmes in response to the Seventh National Development Plan. “Our loans are not based on vulnerability because we are responding to the Seventh National Development Plan,” Mrs Chirwa said.

She said this when she addressed students that this year is the first time the learners at Mulungushi University are being sponsored by the board. Mrs Chirwa said the board is giving 50 percent sponsorship to students pursuing science and related programmes and 40 percent to learners doing social science studies.

She said other students who are also benefitting from Government loans are those at the University of Zambia, Copperbelt University, Mukuba University, Kwame Nkrumah University and Chalimbana University. “You should know that there are thousands more people who want to be sponsored. Here at Mulungushi University, we had over 2,000 people who applied for sponsorship and we only awarded 300 first-year students,” Mrs Chirwa said. She urged the students to focus on their education so that when they complete their training and get employed, they can contribute to national development.

Mrs Chirwa warned the students against engaging in retrogressive activities like riots because their sponsorship will be withdrawn. She said the board expects students being sponsored to conduct themselves in an acceptable manner during the period they will be pursuing their programmes. And Mulungushi University d e a n o f s t u d e n t s P a n d e y Siayachamba urged the learners to work hard in view of the support they are getting from the board.

“Your role is to work hard. The relationship you have entered in is for you to pass and their [board’s] role is to pay for you,” Dr Siayachamba said. Zambian DNA is disappointed with all those spreading alarming statements alleging that the country’s institutions of government are under capture when in fact not.
Some bitter and frustrated former cabinet ministers have teamed up with some disgruntled elements in opposition political parties to alarm the nation by peddling falsehoods, in an effort to incite the citizenry to rise against the government.
However, we challenge all those spreading falsehoods to provide evidence to support their allegations, failure to which they should be arrested for inciting Zambians to rise against a democratically government.
We appeal to all well meaning patriotic Zambians to ignore the said bitter and frustrated former cabinet ministers, who are in an alliance with vision less opposition political party leaders who have nothing to offer, and instead support President Edgar Lungu’s trans-formative development agenda that leaves no one behind.

Saudi Arabia Executions Reach 134 This Year With Some Crucified And Beheaded, Including Six Who Were Kids When Arrested

Saudi Arabia has executed 134 people this year, including six who were kids when they were arrested.

The prisoners were killed by brutal methods that have been frowned upon, including crucifixion and beheading, according to a human rights organisation.

At least 58 of those killed were foreign nationals and most were accused of spreading Shia Islam – a crime in the Sunni Arab state.

There were 21 Pakistanis, 15 Yemenis, five from Syria and four from Egypt. Two Jordanians, two Nigerians, a Somalian and two from unidentified nations were also included in the figures.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman pledged to reduce the use of the death penalty in the oppressive Arab kingdom. But, in spite of his promise, there is a rise in state executions.

In a report presented at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, The Death Penalty Project revealed a further 24 people are at “imminent risk'”of execution. They include three children, prominent political opponents of the crown prince, clerics, and human rights campaigners.

At least six teens were executed this year after being arrested for supposed “crimes” when they were kids, the report claims.

An event hosted by The Death Penalty Project highlighted the “illegal and arbitrary executions” in Saudi Arabia as well as human rights abuses for both detainees and their families.

Experts said these abuses have been “exacerbated by the systematic torture of detainees and grossly unfair trials culminating in death sentences”.

Among those executed this year are three women and 51 who were facing drug charges that would be considered minor offences elsewhere in the world.

On April 22,  a horrific mass execution was carried out by the savage regime involving 37 men being killed. One was crucified and another had his head impaled on a spike, The Sun UK reports.

Those killed during the beheading bloodbath had all been convicted of “terrorism offences” in the hardline kingdom.

One of those beheaded was Abdulkareem al-Hawaj. He was arrested while attending an anti-government protest when he was aged just 16.

He was executed by beheading. His head was cut from his body in front of a baying, bloodthirsty crowd along with 36 other men.

At least one of the bodies were reportedly crucified and put out on display after the execution.

Another victim, Mujtaba al-Sweikat, was a teenager who was set to start a new life in the US, studying at Western Michigan University, when he was arrested for attending an anti-government protest at age 17.

He was badly beaten including on the soles of his feet before he “confessed” to crimes against the state. Human rights charities claim he was also tortured into confessing and convicted in a “sham trial.”

Sentencing a person to death who is aged under 18 is banned under international law.

Sampa Says He Can Only Manage K1,500 Not K7,000 As Child Maintenance

*Mayor wonders why his ex-wife is demanding K7,000 for child maintenance when she gets over K50, 000 as her monthly  salary from her job as Bank of Zambia economist.

*Mayor has since paid K87,000 outstanding balance to American International School.

Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa has pleaded with the High Court to reduce the maintenance fee for his daughter from K7,000 to K1,500 because he is struggling to fend for his four other children. The city father has asked the court to vary the maintenance order dated April 23, 2019 in which he was ordered to be paying K7,000 monthly child maintenance fee for his fiveyear-old daughter, Emmanuella.

This is a case in which Mr Sampa’s former wife, Mwika Mwenechanya, asked the court to cite him for contempt and order the Lusaka City Council to be dedicating K7,000 from his monthly salary for child maintenance. In July this year, the High Court ordered the Lusaka City Council to start making monthly deductions of K7,000 from Mr Sampa’s salary which will be given to Ms Mwenechanya for child maintenance. Last week, Lusaka Town Clerk Alex Mwansa told the Daily Mail that the first deduction from the city father’s salary is expected to be done this month-end.

But Mr Sampa has gone back  to court requesting a reduction of the child maintenance fee on grounds that he is struggling to provide basic needs for himself and his other four children. “I crave the indulgence of this honourable court to grant my application and reduce the monthly child maintenance fee to K1,500 to enable me to equally and properly maintain my other four children and myself,” he states.

This is contained in an affidavit in support of summons for an order to vary the maintenance order. Mr Sampa states that on April 23 this year, the court rendered a ruling on maintenance in which it directed him to be paying K7,000. “I have complied with all court orders given and moved the said child to Baobab School of Lusaka and paid all outstanding bills amounting K87,000 to the American International School as confirmed by the school,” the document reads.

He says he has also put Emmanuella on the council’s mescaline scheme and provided a driver to be taking her to and from school daily. Mr Sampa also says he buys his daughter clothes every three months. He states that while his salary is K20,000, his personal monthly expenses on food and clothing cost K8,000 and that he also has four other children who depend on his monthly income.

Mr Sampa submits that he intends to raise all his children equally and does not want to appear as if he is favouring any of them. “The respondent has a mortgage with Stanbic Bank amounting to K82,036.29 together with interest calculated at 24.75 percent per annum.

“The bank has since sent him a final demand notice on the loan,” the document reads. In his further plea to reduce the maintenance order, Mr Sampa has said it is a fact that his former wife is an economist at Bank of Zambia who earns over K50,000 as monthly salary and that she only has one child to fend for.

UTH Doctors Successfully Remove Giant Brain Tumor From 16 Year Old Girl

Surgeons at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) have made another major breakthrough by saving the life of a 16-year-old girl after removing a giant tumour from the back of her brain. The tumour was compressing the girl’s breathing and the heart rate centres in the brainstem, making its removal a delicate undertaking. But UTH physicians, who have in the recent past successfully conducted delicate surgeries, were equal to the task.

After a 10-hour operation conducted on Monday, five Zambian neurosurgeons successfully removed the tumour from the patient’s posterior fossa [back of the brain]. UTH head of neurosurgery unit Kachinga Sichizya is proud of the team of specialists who attended to the patient, who initially could not sit or walk. In a posting on his Facebook page, Dr Sichizya thanked God for the successful surgery, describing it as a “dangerous undertaking”.

“To attempt to separate the tumour from the brainstem is a very steep and dangerous undertaking! A careless manoeuvre could end life in a moment,” Dr Sichizya, who is also head of neurosurgery training in Zambia under the Specialist Training Programme (STP), said.

He said the patient, who was referred to UTH in July from Petauke, earlier underwent a ventriculoperitoneal shunt, an operation to relieve pressure on the brain caused by fluid accumulation. Dr Sichizya said the latest operation started around 12:00 hours. “I knew it was going to be a long and difficult day and I did not know how the two zealous young female doctors would cope.

“But after a long day and an operation lasting 10 hours, Bwalya Haangala and Misozi M. Lufungulo were still standing. And they had taken no break for water or food. “Female neurosurgeons anywhere in the world are a rare phenomenon and yet in the little time we have started the Neurosurgery STP programme, we already have two ladies, and they are hungry to learn and to operate, and to simply be as good at it as anyone can be,” Dr Sichizya said. And in an interview, Dr Sichizya said the patient is stable and recuperating in the intensive care unit.

“She is awake, she woke up this morning [yesterday] and she is obeying commands,” he said and asked Zambians to include her and all other patients in their prayers. Dr Sichizya said UTH attends to about seven patients with posterior fossa in a month.

“Tumours in the posterior fossa, especially among children, are very common in Zambia. The major problem is the delay in presenting them to the hospital,” he said. UTH conducts two to four brain operations every week.

Fuel Prices To Go UP

FUEL prices will be increased as a result of hiked prices of the commodity on the international market following a drone attack on fuel storage facilities in Saudi Arabia. Minister of Energy Mathew Nkhuwa said that the fuel price hike will be implemented on the new stock of the commodity. Mr Nkhuwa said this yesterday after officially opening the ‘Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BFFA)’ private sector stakeholders meeting.

“I know about what has happened in Saudi Arabia, I mean, it’s most unfortunate but this is what happens in the world when things are not straight all the time. “The price [of fuel] will definitely go up but we have got old stocks, we are not going to increase the price of fuel on the old stocks,” Mr Nkhuwa said.

He was responding to journalists who asked what impact the recent drone attack on a fuel facility in Saudi Arabia will have on the cost of fuel in Zambia. On Saturday, drone attacks were reported on petroleum and gas processing plants in Khurais and Abqaiq, knocking down about 5.7 million barrels per day of total Saudi oil output.

And the minister has also said that energy tariffs are likely to double owing to various socio-economic impacts. “It [energy tariff] will double the amount [from the current 75 percent] because we are paying half the amount that we are supposed to pay,” he said. Mr Nkhuwa said Government will invest in other energy sources to reduce over dependency on imported crude oil.

“What we are looking at is bio fuels like diesel, ethanol and very soon, we will be accepting ethanol in Ndola at Indeni Petroleum Refinery so that we can have 10 percent of our own product and that way, we will be able to save the kwacha,” Mr Nkhuwa said. And earlier when opening the workshop, the minister said the meeting is timely especially that delegates are developing a fund to promote an energy mix in-serviced areas. “Zambia needs diverse solutions to meet its energy needs,” he said. Mr Nkhuwa is impressed that BFFA- Zambia has connected over 144,000 households to offgrid electricity in two years.

BGFA was setup to incentivise the emergency of new private sector business models offering affordable and clean energy access to people living in rural and peri-urban areas in Africa. “There is US$20million available for the second round of the BGFA for Zambia,” he said. And Swedish Embassy head of development co-operation Karin Sverken said BFFA programmes are in line with the Sustainable Development Goal(SDG) number seven on provision of affordable and clean energy.

A photographer at a camp in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve was in for a surprise when he came across an incredibly rare, “blacker” newly born Zebra.

Mr Antony Tira – A renowned tour guide-cum photographer – at Matira bush camp, spotted and photographed the black dotted foul and posted it on the camp’s Facebook page attracting a lot of social media attention.

“At first I thought it was a zebra that had been captured and painted or marked for purposes of migration. I was confused when I first saw it,” Mr Tira said
.
He said on closer examination, he realised that what he was seeing was actually a zebra with melanin disorder. It was hardly a week old, it appeared weak and very different from the others for it has not stripes and was stuck close to a female adult zebra, probably its mother.

The discovery caused stampede in the reserve with tour drivers and photographers, hurriedly taking tourists to the lookout area in the game reserve near the Mara River for the rare find that has remained the top story in the Mara for the last three days

LUSAKA Minister Bowman Lusambo claims Opposition UPND boss Hakainde Hichilema wants to overthrow the President and take charge of the nation.

In his social media writeup, Lusambo writes;

“It is now becoming abundantly clear that UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema is a desperate man and in his desperation for power, he will do anything to ascend to the presidency.

His latest press briefing this week at which he went to an extent of falsely declaring the hunger situation in the country a national disaster is a case in point.

Just to remind Hakainde incase he wants to pretend to have forgotten, Zambia already has a sitting President and this President is the custodian of the Republican Constitution and this Constitution allows ONLY him to make such declarations and today this President is His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, the Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces.

Hakainde is a man who thrives on negativity and his Doomsday Politics have reached very dangerous levels.

As a patriotic citizen and after thorough analysis, I have come to the conclusion that Hakainde’s declaration is tantamount to overthrowing a legitimately elected government. His declaration amounts to usurping power from a government that was popularly elected.

Hakainde should be reminded that as leader of an opposition party, he has no authority to declare anything on this nation. He lacks the required locus standi to make such a bold declaration on Zambia.

We are now left to wonder why Hakainde is so preoccupied with this issue. Admittedly, there are pockets of hunger in some parts of the country due to bad weather but in the same token, there is plenty of mealie meal available in every part of Zambia, from Lusaka to Dundumwezi, from Chongwe to vubwi, from Kasempa to Luanshya, our trading places are filled with bags of mealie meal and in those selected places where there is proven case of food insecurity after assessments are done, the DMMU have been responding to such effectively.

As a responsible leader that he is, President Lungu has admitted that there are indeed pockets of hunger in some parts of the country to which Government is adequately responding. President Lungu is very different from some so called political leaders who have failed to admit to their role in the privatization programme and the stripping of railway line on the Copperbelt.

It therefore beats logic as to why Hakainde wants to portray a picture that the entire country is starving when the situation is to the contrary.

As much as he wants to ride on national misfortunes such as drought to attempt to score political points, I should warn him that he should not stretch his luck. We respect his constitutional freedoms such as the Right to Movement and Association but he should be warned that as Lusaka Province Minister, i will not allow him to go round the Province playing mealie meal politics. Those ill conceived donations of mealie meal that he wants to be making should be done with no political malice.

When I decide to donate to my constituency in Kabushi, I do so with the full blessings of the people because, as their Representative, I am one of them but I am struggling to identify which people Hakainde purports to represent because he does not have any Constituency, least of all a ward. What Hakainde runs is merely a Cult and his cadres are simply cult followers.

I further wish to warn him to stop roaming around Lusaka Province like a cockroach in the Kitchen and give us space to attend to real developmental issues affecting our people.

My advice to Hakainde is, let him quickly adopt smart opposition politics and offer effective checks and balances before he becomes totally irrelevant to the political fabric of this nation.”
